Former E.J. Ourso College of Business Dean Thomas D. Clark Jr. died Oct. 9, according to a University news release.
Clark was dean of the College of Business from 1996 until 2002. He was the fifth dean of the school.
“At the time of his death, Clark was the president of Stategy Associates, a consulting firm specializing in strategy development, strageic planning assistance, corporate governance policy, [and] corporate analysis,” the release says.
Clark was described as a “good dean, strong dean” by Helmut Schneider, Chair of the Department of Information Systems and Decision Sciences.
“[Clark] made tremendous progress for the business college,” Schneider said.
Schneider said Clark enjoyed exercising and hiking in the mountains of Colorado and had a goal of hiking every mountain more than 14,000 feet in Colorado.
Clark used to swim a mile or two every morning, said ISDS professor Jim Van Scotter.
Van Scotter said Clark was an advocate of minority doctorate students, helping them earn grants to finish school.
Van Scotter described Clark as having an “operations research” background.
Van Scotter met Clark in 1982 while both were serving in the U.S. Air Force.
Air Force members that had degrees in operations research looked up to Clark, Van Scotter said.
Van Scotter added that Clark had a distinguished military career.
Clark was “well respected in the operations research community”, Van Scotter said.
Clark’s funeral is scheduled for Friday in Denver, and he will be put to rest with full military honors, according to the news release.
