LSU System President John Lombardi appointed New Orleans banking executive Gary Solomon on Tuesday as chairman of a 20-member search committee for a new University of New Orleans chancellor, according to a news release.
Lombardi appointed LSU System Vice President and Chief of Staff Carolyn Hargrave as vice chair and administrative support liaison for the committee, according to the release.
“UNO is fortunate to have a distinguished and extensive group of alumni and friends whose commitment to the future of the institution is remarkable,” Lombardi said in the release.
Solomon is a UNO graduate with a history of involvement with the university, according to the release. The new chancellor will replace former UNO Chancellor Tim Ryan, who was fired Sept. 16 by the Board of Supervisors.
Due to what Ryan said was noncompliance with the System, Lombardi summoned Ryan to Baton Rouge and said the board decided to fire him. Ryan said he would not allow UNO to be run as a branch campus of LSU.
