Former LSU safety and pitcher Chad Jones has been released from the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan and is heading home to New Orleans today, according to a New York Giants press release.
The New Orleans native has undergone many surgical procedures at the Manhattan hospital after suffering injuries to his left leg and ankle after a car accident on Carrollton Avenue on June 25.
Jones will take time to rest while he is home and will return to New York in several weeks for further surgery.
“Chad is in great spirits and excited to be getting out of the hospital,” said Giants vice president of medical services Ronnie Barnes in the statement. “All has gone well thus far for Chad, and he will return in probably six to eight weeks for another surgical procedure.”
Jones started 19 games for the LSU football team and was drafted by the Giants in the third round of this year’s NFL draft.
The 6-foot-3-inch, 231-pound athlete also starred on the LSU baseball team as a relief pitcher and outfielder.
