The two North Carolina-based companies have joined together for a limited time to offer a doughnut with Cheerwine-flavored creme inside a glazed Krispy Kreme. Technician hit the streets, offering students a taste of the new creation in return for their opinions.
Johnathan Locklear, sophomore, industrial engineering:
“The chocolate is OK on top, but the filling makes it a lot better. I feel it’s pretty good. It’s got a strawberry taste to it. Strawberry and chocolate go good together.”
Ashley Taylor, freshman, criminal justice:
“I think it tastes really good. It’s new. I like strawberry. This is definitely a new flavor. It was a good idea — it came through. I personally am not a chocolate lover, but with this, I like it.”
Steven Rothenberg, freshman, physics:
“They’re delicious, honestly. I’m digging the Cheerwine inside. I’m not sure if it’s Cheerwine, it tastes more like cherry than strawberry. I think the flavors blend well together. It’s a great business venture.”
Nathan Simmons, sophomore, mechanical engineering:
“I’ve never been a fan of the crème-filled doughnuts, but it’s pretty good. I like Cheerwine [soda]. I definitely like [the chocolate] — it adds to it and it blends well together. I think [the partnership between Cheerwine and Krispy Kreme is] a great idea; I don’t see how it could go wrong.”
Joshua Blue, sophomore, computer science:
“This is good. I like Cheerwine soda, and Cheerwine in a doughnut — it’s just wonderful. It’s a brilliant idea.”
Christopher Ryan McSwain, junior, landscape design:
“With them both being from North Carolina, it’s a good combination. They should stick together on this and not make it a short one, two month promotion. But I prefer North Carolina keep this in-state. I was actually there [at Harris Teeter] the first night they came in. I was waiting for them to come in. I got four boxes actually. They handed them out to my friends so they could try them. The Krispy Kreme stores at home don’t have them… and I just want to bring them home. The chocolate adds a little kick to it. It tastes just like Cheerwine. It’s tastes very delectable.”
Seth Frederickson, sophomore, history:
“It’s a delightful treat of various flavors. I like the filling; it’s very fluffy. Random, but a good random. It does actually taste like Cheerwine. The chocolate’s great. You can put chocolate on anything. I think it’s a match made in heaven.”
Michael Bullock, freshman, electrical engineering:
“I’d buy them again if I find them. They taste a lot like Cheerwine and I think the chocolate enhances the flavor.”
Chris Buffaloe, freshman, computer science:
“I think they’re pretty good. I’ve never had Cheerwine before, but I hope it tastes like that because it was good. Pretty much anything is good with chocolate.”
Michael Atuokwu, freshman, electrical engineering:
“I thought the doughnuts were good; they did taste like Cheerwine. But I think they’d taste a bit better with vanilla on top of them because the chocolate kind of drowns out the flavor.”
Andrew Maamari, freshman, computer engineering:
“The doughnuts were good; they tasted like a Cherry ICEE to me with chocolate on top.”
Fahad Majeed, accounting, senior:
“It’s a bit weird. You get the [Cheerwine] flavor when you’re getting to the bottom of it. But overall, I guess it’s OK. It’s not that great. I like the chocolate there. I guess it’s a good thing that [Cheerwine and Krispy Kreme] should partner up, but they should come up with a better flavor.”
