The Louisiana Board of Regents unanimously elected Tom Layzell as the interim commissioner of higher education.
Layzell steps in for former Commissioner Sally Clausen, who quit in June. The board will have a permanent hire by October.
Layzell has served on the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning board and the Illinois Board of Governors of State Colleges and Universities.
