LSU redshirt freshman quarterback Chris Garrett will leave the LSU football program, according to an LSU news release.
Garrett, the third-string quarterback on LSU’s roster, will transfer from the Tigers after the summer.
“We wish Chris the best,” LSU coach Les Miles said in a news release. “There are no hard feelings. Chris is a good kid. We hope he has success wherever he ends up.”
The former Scout.com three-star quarterback came to LSU from Tupelo (Miss.) High School in 2008.
Garrett’s departure would leave LSU with junior quarterbacks Jordan Jefferson and Jarrett Lee. Walk-on Barrett Bailey is also on the team.
Former quarterback recruit Russell Shepard moved to wide receiver before spring practices.
It is still unknown if 2010 quarterback prospect Zach Lee will honor his scholarship or sign with the Los Angeles Dodgers, who drafted him with the 29th pick in this year’s MLB draft.
Sources have indicated it is likely Lee will stay at LSU and wants to play football and baseball for the Tigers.
Recruiting quarterbacks for the 2011 class has been rough for LSU so far.
Most out-of-state prospects have already committed to other schools, and there aren’t many blue-chip quarterbacks from Louisiana.
