Junior linebacker Ryan Baker is likely to return to the field for Saturday’s game against Vanderbilt, LSU coach Les Miles said in a teleconference Wednesday morning.
Baker has been out since breaking his jaw in practice Aug. 13.
“It looks like Baker will be able to play,” Miles said. “He’s practiced each of the days so far this week.”
Miles said he is looking at sophomore Matt Branch, redshirt freshman Josh Williford and junior T-Bob Hebert to fill in for the injured Will Blackwell at right guard.
Blackwell went down on LSU’s first offensive play against North Carolina with a broken ankle and will be out at least six weeks.
“We’re developing guys at right guard … I don’t think there’s any question it will be a little bit by committee,” Miles said. “We want to keep [Hebert] at center because he’s comfortable there. He came in and played well at right guard [against North Carolina], so it’s certainly possible to return him there.
“Those other guys have been getting that guard work entirely. We’ll see how it goes this week.”
