LSU coach Les Miles said junior quarterback Jordan Jefferson will get the starting nod against Tennessee on Saturday in Tiger Stadium.
Jefferson has not thrown a passing touchdown or eclipsed the 100-yard passing mark since LSU’s 30-24 victory against North Carolina. He most recently recorded just 75 yards through the air and two interceptions Saturday against West Virginia. He was also sacked twice and has been sacked five times through four games.
When Miles was asked point-blank if Jefferson will start, he briefly paused and answered, “Yeah.”
“Some of the things Jordan Jefferson did were exactly what we needed,” Miles said. “I’ve had quarterbacks who have not played well, but they seem to get better. I suspect that will happen yet again.”
Miles said he likes what he sees from backup Jarrett Lee and that it is a game plan week to week to find ways to get him involved.
“We are looking at the opportunities to play Jarrett Lee. He’s worked hard at it, and he’s more mature,” Miles said. “Making sure he’s ready to step on the field and do the things we expect him to do is my push if you will. It’s getting closer and closer, and we like him. It’s never going to be necessarily the fact that the other guy is just doing poorly; it’s a complement with the efforts that Jarrett Lee has.”
