Louisiana State Police recorded no fatal crashes during Labor Day weekend, according to an LSP news release.
Twelve people were killed on Louisiana roadways during Labor Day weekend in 2009, the release says.
This past weekend was a “No Refusal Weekend,” which meant it was more difficult for drivers to refuse a breathalyzer test. State Police sent out an extra number of troops this weekend for the special program.
Troopers did arrest 177 drivers for DWI across the state during the holiday weekend. Sixteen drivers refused chemical tests, but 12 of the 16 were tested anyway because search warrants were obtained for the drivers.
