University Pakistani students and the Muslim Students Association are selling wristbands to raise money and spread awareness about the recent flooding in several Pakistan provinces in July.
Students are selling the wristbands for $2 in Free Speech Plaza on Monday and Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Petroleum engineering junior Hasnain Mujahid, a member of the MSA, was born in Pakistan, and his grandfather hasn’t ever seen flooding this bad. His grandmother’s house had a foot of water, but was relatively lucky compared to other areas.
More than 20 million people have been displaced and more than 2,000 have died in the flooding.
“Before we rebuild in those places, we have to clean up. It’s more or less like [Hurricane] Katrina,” Mujahid said.
