University administrators released Wednesday afternoon their plan to cut $62 million as part of a state-mandated exercise.
The updates were applied to the “FY ’12 Budget Crisis” page on www.lsu.edu.
The theoretical cut increases the amount cut from Level Three of the University’s three-tiered cutting plan from the $20 million projected in July to $36.3 million.
Level Three includes the academic core of the University. In their new projections, administrators say the cuts would mean “roughly 50 degrees will be eliminated, affecting 8,000 students.”
The update also says the cuts will lead to the elimination of 700 positions, including 350 faculty positions.
“Diversity in career opportunities will be severely limited; campus buildings will be closed,” the update said.
These cuts will not necessarily occur — they are theoretical numbers developed for an exercise mandated by the state.
Read tomorrow’s edition of The Daily Reveille for a full description of the updates.
