The Board of Regents chose a search firm Wednesday to find the state’s next higher education commissioner.
The Board selected Greenwood/Asher and Associates, Inc., to find Louisiana higher education’s highest executive.
Contract details have not been settled, although a tentative cost was set at $105,500.
Some Board members questioned the price and need to hire a firm in a time of state budgetary uncertainty, but the majority argued the Board didn’t have resources for a proper search.
The Board has operated without a permanent or interim commissioner since the resignation of former commissioner Sally Clausen this summer.
The Board hopes to have a new commissioner by December.
The Board also discussed higher education’s budget situation Wednesday.
“We have to look at making plans as far out as possible to give our faculty and staff lead time,” Regents Vice-Chairman Bob Levy said in a news release.
“If we are talking about $432 million, or anything close to that, lots of bad things will happen for our students and for our state. To that end, we must rally around some shared goals.”
