(AP) — Democratic political newcomer Caroline Fayard brought in the most campaign cash in the latest fundraising period for the lieutenant governor’s race.
But Republican Secretary of State Jay Dardenne has the most money on hand as the race heads into its final week. Dardenne raised $72,000 from Aug. 24 through Sept. 12, according to campaign finance reports. After his spending, he had $536,000 cash on hand.
Fayard, a New Orleans lawyer, raised $122,000 in the same period and had $246,000 on hand.
Other candidates fell behind in the money race. St. Tammany Parish President Kevin Davis reported $36,000 in his campaign coffers, state Sen. Butch Gautreaux had $29,000, country singer Sammy Kershaw had $82,000 and state Republican Party Chairman Roger Villere had less than $7,800.
