Jane Cassidy, associate dean of the College of Music & Dramatic Arts and interim director of the School of Music, has been named vice provost for Academic Affairs, the University announced this morning.
Cassidy will replace Chuck Wilson, who will step down in December. Wilson, who is also an oceanography and coastal sciences professor, will instead focus his full attention on oil spill research responsibilities for the University.
“His heart, soul and intelect is in sea grant, and there’s never been a more important time for him to be [there],” said Chancellor Michael Martin.
Cassidy joined the Office of Academic Affairs on Aug. 16 and is currently in a transition period to take over for Wilson.
“It is an honor to be able to serve LSU as a vice provost,” Cassidy said in a news release. “I left behind, at least temporarily, my teaching and research, which have defined my professional life for 22 years at LSU. This was not an easy decision, because teaching is my first love, and my work over a decade with premature infants at Woman’s Hospital was exhilarating.”
