Junior safety Karnell Hatcher and sophomore wide receiver Chris Tolliver will not play in next Saturday’s season opener against North Carolina, LSU coach Les Miles confirmed Friday night. Hatcher will sit out because of a lingering knee injury, while Tolliver suffered a concussion last Tuesday in practice after leaping for a pass and falling on his head. There isn’t a timetable on when either will return. Miles also said a decision about whether or not sophomore defensive tackle Josh Downs will play against North Carolina will come later next week. Downs was carted off the field Aug. 19 in LSU’s second scrimmage. “I think Downs has an opportunity to play,” Miles said. “He’s improved daily, and I think we’ll kind of reassess him as we get closer to the game.”
