Louisiana State Superintendent of Education Paul Pastorek is visiting former LSU Chancellor and NASA chief Sean O’Keefe in Alaska, according to a report by The Advocate.
Pastorek missed a Board of Elementary and Secondary Education meeting Thursday because of the visit, according to the report. He reportedly left for Alaska on Saturday, and his return date is not certain at this point.
Pastorek is a friend of O’Keefe’s from college and has been serving as a spokesman for the family after O’Keefe was involved in a plane crash in Alaska on Aug. 9. The crash killed five of nine passengers, including former U.S. Sen. Ted Stevens.
O’Keefe remains in serious condition in an Anchorage hospital. His son, Kevin, has been released from the hospital.
