A traveling exhibit on the Renaissance traditions in science in philosophy found in the Harry Potter novels will open in Middleton Library Sunday. ‘Harry Potter’s World: Renaissance Science, Magic, and Medicine,’ created by the National Library of Medicine, examines the principles of Renaissance alchemy, astrology and philosophy which are found at the roots of J.K. Rowling’s fantasy series. The exhibit will also feature art projects by University students who were asked to create their own mythological plants and animals. Associate librarian Peggy Chalaron said the exhibit puts a new perspective on Harry Potter. ‘It’s a very different twist on Harry Potter since people are mostly looking at it as a literary phenomenon rather than other aspects of it,’ Chalaron said. ‘I don’t think they necessarily stop to think about the science.’ The exhibit’s open house will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday in Middleton Library.
