LSU defensive tackle Akiem Hicks has left the team, sports information director Michael Bonnette confirmed Thursday. Hicks is no longer enrolled at the University, the Registrar’s Office confirmed Thursday. The defensive tackle’s recruitment resulted in an investigation of the football team for possible recruiting violations, The Times-Picayune reported. Bonnette, coach Les Miles and the Southeastern Conference Office have all declined to comment on the investigation, which LSU Athletic Director Joe Alleva confirmed Nov. 30. Hicks’ departure joins a list of lost players, coachs and commitments with which the LSU football program is already dealing. Former LSU running backs coach Larry Porter left the Tigers in late November to become the head coach at Memphis, and former LSU wide receivers coach D.J. McCarthy, who recruited Hicks, resigned in early December. LSU junior Chad Jones decided last week to try his luck in the upcoming NFL draft, and three recruits have also decommited in the last two months. Hicks did not play for LSU this season after transfering from Sacramento City Community College. Former Tennessee wide receivers coach Frank Wilson will take over as running backs coach and recruiting coordinator, and former Florida wide receivers coach Billy Gonzales will take over as wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator. —- Contact The Daily Reveille sports staff at [email protected]
