Louisiana high school students can start saying good-bye to the GEE. By the 2012-2013 school year, the Graduate Exit Exam will be completely phased out and replaced with End-of-Course, or EOC, exams, according to the Louisiana Department of Education’s Web site. The transition will begin next school year as EOC exams become more numerous and use of the GEE is reduced. EOC tests were introduced to students in fall 2007. The tests, which ‘measure the knowledge and skills a student should have mastered by the end of the course,’ will be given in subjects including algebra I, English II, geometry, biology, English II and American history, according to the Department of Education’s Web site. Beginning in the 2010-2011 school year, incoming freshman will have to pass three EOC exams to earn a standard diploma, per Department of Education policy. Students must pass English I or English’ II, algebra I or geometry and biology or American history.
