Everyone’s favorite witch is back and better than ever with devilish new powers.
Ever since Sabrina Spellman, played by Kiernan Shipka, signed her name in the Book of the Beasts, everything has been different for the young witch. Little did fans know, that was only the beginning for Spellman and the rest of her family.
Sabrina’s new powers came with a new bad witch attitude. She also struggles knowing the dark lord could call on her at any time to do his bidding, and she doesn’t want to be anywhere near mortal friends when he does.
Of course, this reinforces the breakup between her and Harvey, played by Ross Lynch, and strengthens the bond between her and Nick Scratch, played by Gavin Leatherwood. Now, of course the die-hard fans of the Sabrina series know Sabrina and Harvey are the endgame, but Leatherwood does a great job at beginning to change our minds.
While watching the season, I just couldn’t help but think Nick is too good to be true and even the strongest magic couldn’t create a boyfriend that perfect. Even Leatherwood himself said he ships Sabrina and Harvey and respectfully acknowledges their true love. Viewers get to make that decision for themselves towards the end of the season, let’s just say for now, your girl is #TeamNick.
The finale shows an epic battle I won’t spoil for you, because it’s one so good you have to watch it yourself.
In the end, Sabrina finally gets what she wants, freedom and power, but it’s too soon to see at what cost. I mean the girl has literally already been to hell and back, but I can’t help but thinking this is just the beginning of her personal hell on Earth.
This was the best season finale I’ve ever seen in a really long time. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time and amazed by how the writers were able to bring everything together.
I just can’t help but fear the future for this series because of “Riverdale.” “Riverdale” had an amazing first season, and as major fan of the series and the cast, I can say that I have no idea what’s going on there right now.
After season one, “Riverdale” started going downhill and has remained stuck ever since. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is known to write for both shows and is the Chief Creative Officer of “Archie Comics,” so I can’t help but wonder why the “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” is thriving will “Riverdale’s” storyline is currently barely surviving?
I can already tell that this show is willing to go where “Riverdale” won’t.
They have major representation, with queer actor Lachlan Watson playing Susie, who now goes by Theo, an openly trans character. They also aren’t afraid to not only discuss topics like sexism, but show how they can impact people. I’m definitely not saying “Riverdale” doesn’t do these things, but Sabrina goes above and beyond.
Whatever it is, I hope that it doesn’t interfere with the “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina,” because it’s probably one of the best shows out right now. Especially with rumors of a possible crossover, with “Riverdale” frequently referenced in this first season of Sabrina, the writers need to get it together, so nothing tarnishes the storyline.
Starting this show I never thought I could ever like it nearly as much as the original Sabrina series, but it seriously has blown me away. If the producers stay on the right track, this version could be just as iconic as the original.
