LSU is postseason bound. The 10-seed LSU softball team is once again hosting an NCAA regional and the Tigers begin their road to Oklahoma City.
The Tigers (40-16, 14-10 Southeastern Conference) will host Monmouth, Texas Tech and in-state Louisiana Tech in the Baton Rouge Regional starting Friday, May 17.
This is LSU’s 14th straight appearance in the NCAA tournament and eighth under head coach Beth Torina.
“Being ablee to be a top-16 seed among this type of competition is a blessing,” said senior third baseman Amanda Sanchez. “Obviously we’re happy. No matter who you play now, everybody is the same playing field. Everyone that’s left standing is a great team.”
The Tigers are entering the NCAA tournament on a four-game losing streak, but Torina is still confident in her team going forward.
“The SEC prepares you differently [for postseason],” Torina said. “We played a tough schedule. I think our kids will show up when it’s time to show up.”
Texas Tech finished fourth in the Big 12 this season with a 8-10 conference record.
Both Monmouth and Louisiana Tech were automatic qualifiers after winning the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament and Conference USA tournament respectively.
“We’re excited, we always appreciate the favor of the committee letting us play at home in Tiger Park,” Torina said. “Our team had a great year, I think they’re very deserving of the spot.”
