The Lady Tigers are coming off an impressive season, but one that ultimately missed the mark.

In order to get back to Oklahoma City, they need more firepower in the lineup and they got exactly that with the graduate transfer Amanda Sanchez and much more.

Coming of another impressive season at Missouri where she batted .318 and was an All-SEC defensive player at third base, she looks to increase her stats with the new Tigers.

While she is coming from another SEC school, she knows that she still needs to prove that she belongs on an extremely competitive team.

“Coming in Coach [Beth Torina] was wanting me to practice at multiple positions because we do not know where everyone will fit,” Sanchez said. “I said that I will do whatever it takes to get out on that field.”

With that being said, Sanchez will most likely start at third base to cement that side of the infield with shortstop Amber Serrett, but Sanchez is willing to work to play any position.

Having a deep team is always a good problem to have for Torina, but that could make the adjustment that much harder for Sanchez, yet she found comfort in the team and in one player in particular.

“Becca Schulte actually stands out to me,” Sanchez said. “She is hands down a crazy good second basemen. Every day at practice she was helping me out. She could have been ‘why are you here?’ but she was so helpful throughout.”

Sanchez already loves her new team that she describes as having a perfect combination of power and speed.

She also described that her relationships with the players are already building, which translates to her play on the field.

Everything seems to be working out for Sanchez as adjusts to moving from Colombia to Baton Rouge, but there is one thing that she has not experienced going into her fifth and final college year.

“This year is really special to me,” Sanchez said. “I want to leave everything out on that field. Hopefully we can make it to Oklahoma City because I have been so close, so this year I am trying to be an all-around player and person.”

The graduate transfer has already brought life to practice for the eight freshmen through words and actions.
Sanchez will play a significant role this week with her bat and glove. Even though she does not know where she will play, she does know that she will do whatever it takes to make an impact and that starts on February 7th at home against Tulsa.
