The Lady Tigers basketball team is coming off of a much needed win over the Vanderbilt Commodores in Nashville. This win over Vanderbilt helped boost the Tigers to 6-6 in SEC play and 15-9 over all.
In the past month, the Tigers have a tough schedule of eight straight SEC games. Of the games played so far, the lady Tigers are 3-1 with a loss to Texas A&M and wins against Missouri, Arkansas, and Vanderbilt.
“We can’t go into the game thinking, okay we beat them,” Coach Nikki Fargas said. ”That’s a month ago, that’s old news. You have got to right now play in the moment and stay in the in the moment for 40 minutes. If we can do that, like we have been, then I feel like we have a great chance of winning.”
After the win over Vanderbilt, the Lady Tigers must prepare to face Florida, Kentucky, Mississippi State, and Auburn. The Kentucky and Mississippi State games being away. The Tigers have a chance to right their wrong doings as they will get a face Kentucky and Mississippi State again, both of which they lost to earlier in the season.
“Our focus needs to be on the things we can control. That’s how hard we are going to play and are we going to play like a team.” Coach Nikki Fargas said.
While this schedule is extremely daunting, it does not get any easier for the Tigers. After this long SEC haul, the Lady Tigers go straight into the SEC tournament for a five day series of games. The slate will be wiped clean and the Tigers will have a chance to claim the SEC title for the first time since 2008.
The tournament will be held in Greenville, South Carolina in the Bon Secours Wellness Arena. The tournament will be played from Wednesday, March 6 to Sunday, March 10. It will be televised on the SEC network.
