Saturdays in Tiger Stadium can be some of the most exciting times of the fall semester. It’s a time for students to come together, have fun and to cheer on our Tigers.
On game days, many students may find themselves soaked in sweat, lost in the crowd, a broken heel or even a missing Tiger Card. Here are tips and tricks to survive game day and enjoy your tailgating adventures.
1. Drink Water
This is pretty obvious but staying hydrated should be the top priority. The Louisiana heat can be brutal, and it does not discriminate. While tailgating, you can bring your own water bottle with you, but make sure to recycle it. Outside drinks are not allowed in the stadium, however there are stations where you can get free water cups that you can refill.
2. Use a Phone pocket
Phone pockets are honestly the best invention to exist in my opinion. I hardly carry a purse or wallet with me because I have what I need in my phone pocket. It’s a convenient way to carry cash and your Tiger Card, and you don’t have to worry about losing your items. These can be purchased on campus at the LSU Bookstore.
3. Wear comfortable shoes
I know it’s tempting to wear cute heels on game days, but I promise it’s not worth it. If you have cute tennis shoes that goes with your outfit, wear them. Plus, the student section usually stands throughout the game, so wearing comfortable shoes is a must for staying in on the action happening on the field. Tennis shoes are going to be your best choice.
4. Stay in a group
Campus is hectic and countless tailgates are going on, so it’s really easy to get lost. Stay with a group of friends and keep contact with each other if the group is going to separate.
5. Portable Charger
You may spend the day capturing the activities and taking pictures with friends, but you don’t want to see a notification popping up that your phone is at 10 percent before the game even starts. Investing in a portable charger will get rid of those anxieties and keep your phone up and ready for the start of the game.
6. Beat traffic
The beginning of a football game is just as chaotic as the ending. Traffic after a game is horrendous and nerve-wracking. Come up with a plan within your group on when is the right time to leave, so the drive home will be quick.
7. Clear bag
If you want to bring a bag inside Tiger Stadium, make sure it is a clear bag that adheres to the stadium guidelines. Cute and afforable chear bags can be found online on Amazon or at local boutiques like Frock Candy, The Impeccable Pig and Herringstone’s.
8. Have fun
I’ll save the best for last, but make sure to have fun. This is a time to be with friends and make memories. Game days are a perfect opportunity to escape the stress of classes, studying and upcoming exams. Take the day off and focus on having fun and making the most out of your four short years as an LSU tiger.
