LSU outfielder Aliyah Andrews and infielder Amanda Sanchez were named to the 2019 Preseason All-Southeastern Conference team Thursday morning.
LSU is one of three teams to have two players on the team, along with Alabama and Florida. The Preseason All-SEC Softball team is voted on by the league’s head coaches. Each SEC coach voted for five infielders, four outfielders, three pitchers, one catcher and one utility player.
Andrews, a junior, is a 2018 Second Team All-SEC and SEC All-Defensive Team selection. Last season she started in all 62 games for the Tigers in left field. She lead the team with 71 hits along with an impressive 35 runs. She batted with a team-high of .329 average.
She also broke LSU records with stealing 42 bases on 44 attempts, second highest in school history.
Sanchez, a graduate transfer from Missouri, is also a 2018 All-SEC Defensive Team selection. Sanchez was deemed a dangerous hitter for the SEC-East Tigers. with an on-base percentage of .500 and a slugging percentage of .671.
Last season Sanchez reset career-highs with a .341 hitting average, 31 runs scores and 10 doubles. She finished fourth in the league in on-base percentage and tied for ninth in the league with both batting average and slugging percentage.
LSU softball will start their season Feb. 7 with the Tiger Classic hosting Tulsa, Iowa and Bucknell.
