Baton Rouge Police Department arrested two individuals in connection with a shooting that occurred near Mellow Mushroom early Thursday morning.
Jaylon Jackson, 20, and Jarius Wells, 20, were arrested on accounts of illegal possession of stolen firearms, resisting police and illegal use of dangerous weapons. Jackson and Wells both fled the scene of the accident and were found traveling north on Nicholson Drive, according to the BRPD arrest report.
LSUPD assisted BRPD in locating the vehicle. After the vehicle was stopped, Wells was placed into handcuffs and Jackson tried to flee the scene on foot. He was later apprehended and identified as the shooter. The stolen firearms were located near the scene and collected as evidence. Both defendants have been booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
Media Relations Director Ernie Ballard said neither of the individuals are University students.
Gunshots fired near Mellow Mushroom early Thursday morning prompted chaos and a violent mob among patrons who were attempting to leave the area.
A large group of the restaurant’s patrons surrounded the car of a person trying to leave the parking lot and proceeded to assault her and damage her vehicle, according to BRPD Sgt. Don Coppola.
The shots occurred near Burbank, but the motive of the shooting is unknown, Coppola said. BRPD worked in conjunction with LSUPD to apprehend the suspects accused of firing the gunshots. Coppola confirmed that two individuals were arrested in connection with the shooting.
