Guess who’s back, back again? Suit Up’s back, tell your friends.
Presented by JCPenney in collaboration with the LSU Olinde Career Center, “Suit Up” provides an opportunity for students to start and grow their professional wardrobe at deeply discounted prices everyone can afford. It’s also a chance for students on a budget to acquire business clothing for work attire or future job interviews.
The private event will be held Sunday, Jan. 27, from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the JCPenney in the Mall of Louisiana. Faculty, staff and University alumni, along with members of the JCPenney team, will be present to assist and offer insights into the latest career fashion trends, how a suit should fit, what size to buy, how to tie a tie and more.
The event will offer a special extra 40 percent discount to all University students with valid school ID. Through this substantial discount, students will be able to purchase brands like JF J. Ferrar and Worthington for well below retail price.
Blake Winchell, Job Search Manager at the LSU Olinde Career Center, works with the local JCPenney team to bring this once-a-semester event to the University community.
“Their corporate office sets this up but we then work with the local Mall of Louisiana location to get everything coordinated,” Winchell said. ”We work on picking the date, they shut down their store early, and then re-open it for LSU students to participate.”
This is the fourth semester the event has been held. In addition, the first 300 students will receive Sephora inside JCPenney giveaways while supplies last.
“In the fall, we had a thousand students show up. Hopefully it’s similar,” Winchell said. “If you need professional clothing or if you’re concerned that you don’t have enough business professional attire or interview attire or just work attire, and you’re looking to expand, then it’s a wonderful opportunity for our students to go get clothing at a massive discount on retail prices.”
Anthropology senior Marianna Fotakos hopes the event will assist her to look her best during the process of applying to graduate school.
“I think the event is great, especially for people looking for professional wear at an affordable price,” Fotakos said. “Personally, I’m in the process of applying to graduate school and I want to look my best without breaking the bank and hopefully this event will allow me to do that!”
