Food, am I right?
Food, something we all enjoy and is there for us when we’re happy, sad and everything in between. There’s nothing like a good meal after a long day of classes and work or having your favorite snack during the day to keep you going.
Being in college, I think we all understand the struggle of trying to eat good while being on a budget and a time crunch. It can be hard having a good eating schedule and enough time to cook things other than ramen, which, let’s be honest, slaps when it needs to.
Here’s four quick and easy food ideas to get you through the rest of the semester with some good eats, because a hungry tiger is never a good thing.
Mac and Cheese
Mac and cheese is a staple and arguably a universal fan favorite. It’s easy to make and doesn’t take that much time to cook no matter how you make it. You can get a box of Kraft or Velveeta and make it over the stove super quick or if you have a little extra time, bake it in the oven.
Even if you make it yourself, there’s not many ingredients and it’s a simple recipe. Get some elbow pasta, some different cheeses, milk, butter and you’re pretty much good to go. After boiling the pasta and cooking the cheese, put it together in an oven safe pan or bowl and bake it for about 20 minutes. You can add a couple different cheeses on top to make a four-cheese mac or add breadcrumbs on top for a nice and tasty crunch. Either way, you can’t go wrong with this delicious meal.
Grilled Cheese
Grilled cheese is a light meal that has been perfected by college students for decades. Okay, maybe not decades, but everyone likes a good grilled cheese sandwich. Again, a really simple recipe with little to no steps that basically anyone can make. All you need is butter, bread and cheese and you got yourself a delicious sandwich friendly to your taste buds and you bank account.
Pizza
Pizza is another simple choice that’s always good. You could order in or buy an frozen pizza to put in the oven, but it’s still quick and easy to make one of your own. Just pick up pizza crust, pizza sauce, pizza cheese and your desired toppings and you’ve got a meal that tastes good and is fun to make by yourself and with friends.
There are many alternatives to using a pre-made pizza crust, such as making “thin crust” tortilla pizzas or flattening out canned biscuits for a soft and flaky biscuit pizza.
Pasta
Pasta is my go-to meal because it’s simple to make and there’s endless possibilities. Elbow, angel hair, penne, alfredo sauce, marinara sauce, bolognese sauce and I could go on and on and on. Other than your choice of seasoning and spices there’s not many ingredients and you can make it rather quickly. Plus, the garlic bread on the side is the best part.
When it comes to food social media can be surprisingly helpful. I often find easy and quick recipes on Twitter accounts like Tasty and @milktpapi’s hilarious yet informative cooking videos. I also follow a ton of food accounts on Instagram for inspiration.
I love cooking and baking, but at times it can be hard to do with a hectic college schedule. Finding recipes makes it less stressful because you have choices saved, so you don’t have to guess what to make and can know how long something will take and match it with your schedule. Get a good number of recipes saved to make life easier and tastier.
