Stars: 5/5
Ah, Halloween week is finally here. Although the fall season is here in Baton Rouge, it doesn’t feel like it with the heat and the pandemic still in full swing. There are a few things we can do to spruce up the atmosphere and make it feel like it’s the Halloween season.
Turning your air-conditioner down to 68 degrees, lighting an autumn leaves candle and brewing up a cup of hot cocoa could create the perfect mock-fall ambiance.
Now that the mood is set, it’s time to pick a movie. If you’re like me, scary movies aren’t your thing. Fear not, because “Halloweentown” is the best movie to watch to give you all the Halloween feels you need.
There is no debate this movie cures your craving for Halloween themed movies because its literally based in a town all about Halloween and there are witches and monsters, what more do you need?
The film was released in 1998 and still holds the title of best Halloween movie with the perfect tad bit of spooky. Kimberly Brown plays teenager Marine Piper who just discovered her family secret — they’re witches. Her grandmother Aggie Cromwell played by the magnificent Debbie Reynolds takes her grandkids to Halloweentown and teaches them the ends and outs to defeat the evil spirit attempting to take over the world.
My favorite part of the movie is definitely when Piper is learning how to be a witch with her grandmother. Watching her learn the spells, how to fly and dress is fun and a little corny, which keeps it entertaining.
To me, that’s the perfect plot to a Halloween movie. It’s a classic with a slight bit of humor. When watching the movie, you realize how old it is from the attempted flying and dramatic extra features. The costumes and makeup are also corny which makes the movie more nostalgic and fun to watch. For some reason, this all gives me a feeling of nostalgia from my childhood.
I used to always watch this movie with my friends from middle school during the fall season with a big bag of popcorn and hot cocoa. Even though I’m basically an adult, “Halloweentown” hits the spot and fulfills my Halloween movie craving.
“Halloweentown” is the perfect movie for the spooky season to watch with family and friends. You can find this movie on Amazon Prime for a small fee or on Disney Plus.
