This fall season, both the men’s and women’s golf teams will welcome two international freshmen, Hugo Aguilar Puertes and Carla Tejeda Mulet. The women’s golf team will also welcome a transfer junior, Jessica Bailey, who is from England and played her first two years at Daytona State College.
Aguilar Puertes, native of Valencia, is currently ranked 351st in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR). He will join LSU’s 10-man squad in the fall.
Tejeda Mulet, native of Castellon de Plana, is currently ranked 51st in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) and 14th in the European Golf Rankings (EGR). She is also a member of the Spanish National Team, which she led to a second-place finish at the 2019 European Girls Team Championship. Tejeda Mulet will join the women’s team in fall, where she will have to earn a starting spot.
“With seven of our eight current players returning next year, I expect our practices to be very competitive as our players push each other and raise the level of play for everyone,” women’s golf Head Coach Garret Runion told lsusports.net.
Bailey, native of Leicester, is currently the No. 6 ranked junior college player in the nation. While in Daytona, her team was ranked the No. 2 team in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). This past season, her best finish was tied for sixth at the UNF Collegiate in Jacksonville, Florida.
“Both ladies have a lot of international experience on big stages and look forward to them contributing right away.” Runion said. “The future is bright for LSU women’s golf.”
