LSU sophomore left fielder Aliyah Andrews and senior pitcher Carley Hoover each picked up awards following the team’s sweep of Auburn.
Andrews earned the Southeastern Conference’s Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday morning and Hoover was named NFCA Co-Pitcher of the Week after recording 18 strikeouts in 14.2 innings against Auburn.
Andrews has been her team’s lead off batter for the last 15 games and is second on the team in batting average with a .416.
In LSU’s opening game against Auburn, Andrews recorded her first career triple. She ended up leading the team in batting average with a .614 and recorded nine hits in 13 at bats, which helped LSU complete the series sweep.
“Aliyah was the key to our offense this weekend,” LSU coach Beth Torina said in a press release. “She was a huge reason why we were able to take the series from Auburn. She works hard every day and is very deserving of this honor.”
Andrews received the 34th SEC Player of the Week honor in the program’s history, as well as the first honor for the program this season.
Hoover allowed only nine hits in her two appearances against Auburn. She recorded her fifth shutout of the year in the series finale.
The Tigers will travel to Lexington for their first road SEC series of the season against No. 24 Kentucky. The first game of the series will air on Saturday at 11 a.m. on the SEC Network.
