New Orleans is known for its creativity and vibrancy, making contributions in food, music, art and fashion. New Orleans Fashion Week celebrated the talents of creatives in the fashion industry through a weeklong series of runway shows, parties and other events during its eighth season from March 18 to March 24.
Here are some of the highlights from the last night of runway shows:
Joyce Penas Pilarsky
Filipino designer Joyce Penas Pilarsky featured a whimsical butterfly-themed collection. Many of the looks combined thin white fabric with more structured denim elements, and were adorned with glittery butterfly accents. The last model walked out in butterfly wings and wrapped in a glittery gauzy cocoon, which she dropped to reveal a sparkling white dress. The show added a fantastical element to the last night of runway shows.
West London Boutique
West London Boutique’s show featured a range of feminine, romantic dresses and minimalist pieces. The floral prints and ruffles in many of the outfits had a casually elegant, garden party feel. The collection started off with bold daytime looks that transitioned into more serious structured black and white pieces.
Clinton Whitney Downing
All of the outfits in Clinton Whitney Downing’s runway show were made from unconventional materials, setting them apart from many of the other collections. Downing repurposed film strips, balloons, plastic drink rings and other everyday household items to complete the looks. The overall effect was interesting and unexpected.
Dead Girls Vintage
The bright collection from Dead Girls Vintage featured fun, casual spring looks with a bit of a throwback feel. The yellows, greens and pastel pinks and purples had a fresh and youthful look. The halter tops and miniskirts paired with the bright tube socks added a sporty ‘90s vibe.
Brik Allen
Former Project Runway contestant, Baton Rouge native and University alumnus Brik Allen showcased a sharp, structured collection of clothes ranging from floor-length dresses to swimsuits. Asymmetrical cuts and bold color blocking dominated the pieces, giving them a modern and fun vibe.
