Sophomore INF Jake Slaughter crushed a home run to left Saturday night against the Tennessee Volunteers. It was part of a 14-5 series-clinching victory on a wet night at Alex Box Stadium.
After the game HC Paul Mainieri expressed his amazement at Slaughter’s power.
“It reminded me of somebody like [New York Yankees Slugger] Giancarlo Stanton,” Mainieri said.
Mainieri would clarify what he meant.
“I’m not comparing him to Giancarlo Stanton; I’m just saying the way that ball came off the bat, I thought it would take somebody that strong to hit one out against the wind,” Mainieri said.
The Tigers take on the Volunteers in Game 3 of the series 4 p.m. Sunday at Alex Box Stadium.
