The long anticipated second season of “Santa Clarita Diet” finally arrived on March 23. The Netflix original series captured audiences for its quirky spin on a rather gruesome subject matter.
The Netflix original centers on the Hammond family. The Hammonds are realtors living normal, everyday lives in suburbia when something rather morbid happens to wife and mother Sheila Hammond. She dies and remains undead. To survive, she can only eat, well, the living.
Personally, I loved the first season and was anxious to see if the second would live up to the hype. The mystery that started the entire show was revealed just enough to give viewers more information but not enough that they lose interest in the show altogether.
The season picks up right where it left off from the season one finale. The Hammonds are trying to adapt to Sheila’s new state all the while avoiding the law, raising their teenage daughter and trying to solve the mystery of why this happened to their family.
Drew Barrymore delivers an excellent performance as the newly undead, Sheila. The once quiet and demure Sheila is now confident and living her best life. The character development of Sheila is exemplified in season two and showcases Barrymore’s acting abilities.
Timothy Olyphant also delivers a stellar performance as Joel Hammond, the loving, supporting husband of Sheila. Olyphant’s character goes through major developments in season two, as well. He makes the show entertaining and fun to watch for viewers. His sarcastic but lovable character makes for a definite fan favorite.
Overall, season two was a definite success. There is no end to the quirky humor that made the show a success to begin with. Viewers will not be disappointed if they were fans of the first season.
