The LSU Gymnastics team is currently hitting the road to St. Louis for the national semi-finals.
It was a great scene and one the lady tigers are accustomed to, heading to their third straight national title weekend.
After greeting family and friends, the gymnasts brought their equipment outside and did one final chant before leaving the gymnastics facility to a roaring cheer from their loved ones.
And after the high fives, the lady tigers boarded the bus to Chaifetz Arena, to prepare for a third consecutive run at the school’s first national championship.
The No. 2-ranked tigers will compete against UCLA, Alabama, Arkansas, Nebraska and Georgia in the first semi-final rotation, which begins this Friday at noon.
The top three teams from each of the two semifinals will advance to the Super Six on Saturday.
 
 
LSU was just getting into a groove with their weekend pitching rotation.
But Paul Mainieri told us Tuesday that now pitcher Caleb Gilbert will be out for at least this weekend’s series due to some discomfort in his arm.
And on top of that, power hitter and catcher Hunter Feduccia is feeling discomfort in his hand after a check swing in his last at bat against Tennessee on Sunday.
 
Whew, but don’t worry I’ve got some good news for you.
 
Second baseman Brandt Broussard is back for tonight when the Tigers take on Tulane at 6:30 p.m.
Broussard missed the last thirteen games due to a broken thumb.
He started practicing again on Monday and felt good, Mainieri feels confident enough to move Austin Bain back to first base and let Broussard handle second base.  
 
 
Now, moving on from one diamond to another.
The LSU Softball team had an electric night last night with an impressive 8-0 shut-out against Northwestern State.
The first game of this weekend’s series against No. 9-ranked Texas A&M is Friday at Tiger Park. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
 
The city of New Orleans is flying high after the Pelicans defeated the Trail Blazers 111 to 102 in game two of their playoff series.
Anthony Davis finished the night with 22 point and 13 rebounds.
But, the true star of the game was Jrue Holiday who had 33 points and 9 assists.
The Pelicans will host Portland for the first time of the series tomorrow at the Smoothie King Center at 8 p.m.
If the Pelicans end up winning the series, it will be only the second time in franchise history that New Orleans will reach the second round of the playoffs.
