Less than 24 hours after being drafted into the National Pro Fastpitch softball league, senior pitcher Carley Hoover lead the Tigers to a 4-0 win over South Alabama throwing the third no-hitter of her career.
Finishing the night with eight strikeouts and zero hits, it was clear that Hoover’s head was in the game and not preoccupied with the draft.
“Oh, I’m not worried about the draft at all. I’m just worried about LSU,” Hoover said. “It was a full team thing.”
After a scoreless five innings, freshman Shelbi Sunseri hit a three-run home run to left field to finally put LSU on the board.
“I was just thinking ‘pass the bat to the next person,'” Sunseri said. “As a hitter, I strive to help our pitchers out by getting runs. Any pitcher will tell you that it’s easier to pitch a game when we have run support on the board.”
Head Coach Beth Torina was pleased with the Tigers’ win in their final non-conference game of the season.
“I’ve said it all year, this team has done a very good job of winning the games their supposed to win,” Torina said.
Up next, the Tigers (36-11) will travel to Gainesville to take on Florida on Friday, April 27 at 4 p.m.
