Alix Perry is the executive director for Geaux BIG Baton Rouge and organized this years annual event for the LSU students, faculty and staff.

“This was going to be the sixth Geaux BIG here at LSU. It is based on a service event  that they do at Texas A&M since the 80s,” Perry said.

This event was to take place April 14, but Alix and the other staff members had to cancel the entire event due to the rain and tornado warnings. This did not keep the LSU volunteers from celebrating the Baton Rouge community with a big crawfish boil Monday night.

“Geaux BIG was canceled on Saturday because of the rain, and we had all this crawfish we couldn’t get a refund on,” Perry said. “We just decided to hold a crawfish boil to thank all of our volunteers who had registered, also our community partners who were the job site that we were going to serve.”

Senior Leilah Alkadi has volunteered with Geaux BIG the past three years and loves to help out her community.
