Before they were the Tennessee Titans, they were the Houston Oilers. 
And before the likes of Earl Campbell and Warren Moon lit up the Astrodome, LSU legend Billy Cannon played an integral part in the franchise’s history. 
Titans’ controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk, the daughter of former owner Bud Adams, paid tribute to Cannon Sunday in a statement after the announcement of his death, reported first by the Titans’ official website TitansOnline.com.

“I am sad to hear that our franchise has lost one of its first stars today, with the passing of Billy Cannon,” Strunk said to TitansOnline.com. “I want to offer our condolences to his family. Billy’s legacy will be long remembered in our franchise’s history.”

Cannon followed up his legendary career at LSU by being the first round pick in the 1960 NFL Draft and the 1960 American Football League (AFL) draft. Cannon chose the AFL and the Houston Oilers over the NFL and the Los Angeles Rams. He would play with the franchise from 1960-1963.
“My father recognized that the AFL would need first-rate players to compete with the NFL, both on the field and in public perception, and Billy was one of those special players, who helped the Oilers and the AFL in the process,” Strunk said.
