LSU’s first spring practice isn’t until March 11, but its has already been decided who will wear the infamous No. 7 jersey for the 2018 season.
Announced Monday via twitter, junior transfer Jonathan Giles will have the opportunity to carry on the great tradition that dates back to the early ’70s when star quarterback Bert Jones wore the number.
Giles joined the Tigers in 2017 and had to sit out due to NCAA transfer rules, but he was able to practice with the team throughout the season. Coach Ed Orgeron stated at a press conference that LSU defensive backs couldn’t cover Giles in practice and that he is currently on the starting roster.
Giles had a very successful sophomore season at Texas Tech, with 69 catches for 1,158 yards and 13 touchdowns.
Giles will try to fill the role left by wide receiver DJ Chark, who not only led the Tigers in receiving yards, but also wore the No. 7 jersey in 2017.
