The Tigers game against the Longhorns Friday was a one-sided affair from the first pitch, as LSU cruised to a 13-4 victory.
Pitcher Zack Hess had a phenomenal rebound game after struggling against Notre Dame, striking out ten, which is a new career high for the sophomore.
“Last week I didn’t really feel like…like I was challenging hitters enough,” Hess said. “So that was another thing i really tried to do this week, just be aggressive in the zone and you know, challenge guys and make them hit my fastball.”
And that approach certainly worked out; Hess ended up allowing only two runs on five hits. He is now 1-1 this season.
But rather than rebounding, Brandt Broussard built of his already-hot start to the 2018 season. In his first 5 games, the second baseman is hitting .533 and has 8 RBI. Friday night against Texas, he racked up 4 RBI and 2 runs, batting an outstanding 4-5 from the plate.
“I didn’t [see this coming], but I’ve got to attribute that to the Jordans that are doing a great job of getting on,” Broussard said. “Slaughter’s doing a great job of getting on. They’re allowing me to see some fastballs over the heart of the plate that I can put a good swing on.”
The Tigers are back in action tomorrow for game two against Texas. First pitch is set for 6:30 P.M.
