On Tuesday night, the LSU mens basketball team opened up their season with an emphatic win, beating the Southeastern Lions 94-63.
“Overall, I thought we played well,” LSU HC Will Wade said. “I thought we did a good job defensively… I was proud of our effort there, I was proud of our effort on the glass. We certainly have some defensive lapses and some things we need to clean up, based on the second half.”
Leading the Tigers on the boards (and making Coach Wade pretty happy) was Freshman Emmitt Williams, who finished the game with 12 points and 10 rebounds (7 offensive).
“Tonight was a lot of fun,” Williams said. “I was really nervous, I had to put on deodorant like two more times. We went out there, I saw so many people. In my head, I was like “don’t miss”. We had fun.”
Others, like Freshman F Naz Reid (who also put up 17 points and 6 rebounds), were just happy to be back on the court after an entire off-season of waiting.
“It was a great experience,” Reid said. “Especially with my brothers, we worked throughout the whole summer to be prepared for this first game.”
