Tailgating at the Greek houses and on the Parade Ground for Greek Life and student organizations has been halted for the remainder of the 2018 football season, according to an email from LSU Director of Greek Life Angela Guillory.
Lofton Security Service informed the University by email on Tuesday that it will no longer provide security during tailgates at the Greek houses. No other company is willing to provide security at this time, according to Guillory.
The University is currently discussing options and will circulate a plan for tailgating within the next few days, Guillory said. This plan will be for all student organizations, according to LSU Media Relations Director Ernie Ballard.
Lofton Security informed the University that the company will no longer provide security for any fraternity activities and will issue refunds for the Oct. 13 game against Georgia.
It’s unclear exactly why the company has ended its security. Lofton has not yet responded to a request for comment from The Daily Reveille.
Following the hazing death of freshman fraternity pledge Max Gruver in September 2017, LSU President F. King Alexander and his Greek Implementation Committee moved Greek tailgates from the Parade Ground into fraternity houses, and those without houses were permitted to tailgate on the Parade Ground.
This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
