The LSU Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to support the University’s comprehensive, or “holistic,” admissions process during its October meeting.
The Board recognizes that the comprehensive admissions process is being used by other flagship universities, and will be a better indicator of the potential for student success at the University, said LSU Board of Supervisors Chair James Williams in a press release.
“This process will in no way diminish the academic rigor or excellence already in place at LSU that we have worked so hard over the years to achieve,” Williams said. ”We can look at the whole student while still maintaining quality, and the 2018 fall class, admitted under comprehensive review, is a testament to the fact.”
This comprehensive admissions process, used for the fall 2018 freshman class, looks at more than just an applicant’s GPA and standardized test scores, like course selection and rigor of high school curriculum.
The University still requires applicants to submit their GPAs and standardized test scores, however, it is also using other factors to identify top talent. This comprehensive admissions process is being used by the country’s best performing universities and is currently being used by 40 of the 50 flagship universities, according to the press release.
The Board will continue to monitor the outcomes of this admissions process to ensure the goals of the University are being met, according to the press release.
