The price of crude oil hit a four year high today. Coming in at $85 a barrel, it is the biggest contributing factor to gas prices.
While the average, nation-wide, is $2.89—a pump price not seen at that level since mid July—it is rising rapidly. Across ten states, the average price of a gallon has risen to over $3.00 and that number is only growing.
Baton Rouge is lucky enough to only be at $2.57 a gallon. However, around LSU’s campus, gas prices are even lower.
Students like ,Lilly Claire Robbins, say that if the prices keep rising, she won’t “be able to go home as much as [she} would like”. As a West Monroe native, it takes a “tank and a half” for the 7-hour round trip drive.
Even though Louisiana is on the lower end of the rising pump prices, the state has still increased twenty cents since 2017.
