Junior receiver Jonathan Giles plans to wear No. 12 instead of his usual No. 7 against Florida Saturday as reported by Sports Illustrated’s Ross Dellenger.
Giles was chosen to wear No. 7, an honor given to a dynamic playmaker on LSU’s team. Giles has only totaled four catches for 20 yards through five games played.
Giles, a Texas Tech transfer, has a successful sophomore season for the Red Raiders, 69 catches for 1,158 yards and 13 touchdowns.
Previous No. 7s have included running back Leonard Fournette, receiver DJ Chark, cornerback Patrick Peterson and safety Tyrann Mathieu.
The last time LSU was without a No. 7 was during the 2013 season, after Mathieu’s dismissal from the team and before Fournette’s enrollment in the university.
In the spring, LSU coach Ed Orgeron raved about Giles’ performance on the scout team, saying the defensive backs could not cover him.
