U.S. Rep. Garrett Graves has created a GoFundMe in order pay the Southeastern Conference fines to LSU for storming the field after its win over Georgia on Saturday.
The Republican from Baton Rouge is up for reelection in the Nov. 6 midterm election.
The GoFundMe description says:
“LSU is an inclusive community. And we love our D1 sports! When 102,000 of us get together, we celebrate — and when we do, we leave nothing on the field. But sometimes, the field calls us back…This kind of joy is priceless, but to the SEC it is worth $100,000. To show our appreciation of this recognition, we’re calling on all Tiger fans to spread the love by contributing $36.16 to the Tiger Athletic Foundation so all of the SEC can share in our bliss. If every Tiger fan at the game or watching on TV gives this amount, we’ll be able to share similar delight with Alabama on November 3.”
The Southeastern Conference announced LSU’s $100,000 fine Monday, following the Tigers’ 36-16 win over then-No. 2 Georgia. LSU was first fined in 2014 after beating No. 3 Ole Miss.
If LSU does defeat No. 1 Alabama on Nov. 3 and storm the field afterward, the University will be fined $250,000 and the same for every subsequent offense.
Within 13 hours, the fund has raised almost $7,500 of the $100,000 goal.
