LSU women’s basketball coach Nikki Fargas will be in Baton Rouge for three more years.
The athletic committee passed the extension on Thursday, Oct. 4 and was approved by the LSU Board of Supervisors with no debate. Fargas’ new contract will run through June 30, 2022.
Her contract previously ran through June 30, 2019.
The contract extension was on the Board agenda for the June 2018 meeting, but was pulled so details could be finalized. The contract was then set for the September meeting but was scrapped once again as the meeting ran over time.
During the September meeting, three speakers publicly advocated for Fargas’ contract renewal.
Fargas’ new contract does not include a raise to her $350,000 base salary, but adds increased postseason incentives as high as $600,000.
Since taking over the program in 2011, Fargas has led the Lady Tigers to a 132-93 record and NCAA Tournament appearances in 2012-15 and again in 2017 and 2018. The Lady Tigers have not made it past the first round since 2014.
