On Tuesday, a vigil was held outside of the PMAC in honor of Wayde Sims, who was fatally shot Friday night.
His dad and former LSU player, Wayne Sims, spoke to the hundreds in attendance.
‘We’re all sad, he was just twenty-years-old,” Sims said. “As a parent, I wonder why, why my son was taken away so soon.”
“After talking with God, there was a reason for it.”
His fellow Tiger teammate and lifelong friend, Skylar Mays, remarked on what kind of person Wayde was.
“There’s a reason there’s such a big crowd (at the vigil), it’s because he touched so many people here,” Mays said. “Everybody loved him because of who he was. Everyone gravitated towards Wayde. He always gave positive energy and everyone needs that.”
LSU HC Will Wade also spoke, saying that even though Wayde isn’t physically here, his spirit will forever remain a Tiger.
“We’re gonna honor him every-day in with the ”Sim-set”, do 44 cause that’s how he would want it,” Will Wade said. “We can’t bring back his smile, can’t bring back the jokes and his impersonations of me, which were spot. But we can honor him everyday by living a life where we push people and help people get through things, where we sacrifice for the greater good, when we do everything to the fullest.”
“The other teams are gonna have five guys, we got six. That’s gonna be a big advantage for us.”
