In a first half where LSU controlled the momentum of every facet of the game, perhaps the most surprising was coach Ed Orgeron going for it on fourth down four times, converting on all attempts.
Three times the Tigers converted on fourth down in the first half which led to 10 early points on offense. Junior quarterback Joe Burrow converted on two of them, and sophomore running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire converted on the third.
Coach Orgeron said the game plan was to be as aggressive as possible in those 4th and short situations, and harked back to the 4th-and-2 he didn’t go for in the Florida loss.
“We were going to take shots and play to win the game the whole time,” Orgeron said. “We work on the quarterback sneak every Thursday, and Joe’s a big, strong guy. We feel he can get a half yard every time.”
With a 16-3 lead early in the third, the Tigers faced a 4th-and-2 that Orgeron temporarily thought about going for. LSU burned its first timeout of the second half and played for field position with punter Josh Growden who pinned the Bulldogs to their own three yard line.
Orgeron said the play was a little too long to go for in that situation because LSU already had a two score lead. 
“Steve [Ensminger] said he’d go for it on 4th-and-3, but I called a timeout,” Orgeron said. “It was a little too long, but we were planning on going for it before the timeout.”
Three plays later, Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm was picked off by Kristian Fulton, and LSU would face another tough decision.
Facing a 4th-and-1 inside the Georgia 15 with four minutes to go in the third quarter, Burrow once again sneaked it for another LSU conversion. Kicker Cole Tracy would nail a 24-yard field goal to extend the Tiger lead to 19-3.
Tight end Foster Moreau said in those fourth and short situations, the mindset has got to be toughness and discipline up front.
“You have to knuckle up,” Moreau said. “It’s one yard, and it’s a statement play and us-against-you. Those quarterback sneaks were big, and we felt it. Joe did an incredible job for us tonight.”
