Despite having a sluggish offensive start and being rained upon during the first half, LSU was able to defeat Mississippi State 19-3 thanks to a dominant performance by the defense with 4 interceptions.
“Good win for our football team,” Head Coach Ed Orgeron said. “I thought our defense played lights out.”
Safety Grant Delpit lead the defense tonight with two interceptions of his own.
“I think I definitely played good,” Delpit said. “Our defense played well. We only gave up 3 points.”
On the other side of the ball, running back Nick Brossette was not especially pleased with the offense’s performance.
“Coming into this game, we knew they had a good front,” Brossette said. “It was ugly, but we got the W.”
However, thanks to four field goals from kicker Cole Tracy, LSU was able to put up enough points to hold off the Bulldogs.
“Any time that you have an opportunity help your team and put points on the board as a kicker that’s what you want to do,” Tracy said.
LSU improves to 7-1 for the season as they head into a much needed bye week before hosting the No. 1 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide on November 3.
